Currently AURA receives requests to facilitate refugee sponsorship for more than 10,000 people every year. As much as we would like to be able to help everyone, we simply do not have that capacity. If you are currently overseas please do not contact the AURA office as we will not be able to help. Current refugee sponsors and Canadian relatives should continue to contact AURA through regular procedures.
For refugees outside of Canada:
AURA is not able to consider applications directly from refugees outside of Canada. If you are a refugee wanting to come to Canada, please do not call our office as we will not be able to help you. We advise you to contact/register with the UNHCR. AURA cannot respond to these requests.
For relatives/friends in Canada who want to sponsor a refugee overseas:
At AURA, we cannot submit as many applications as we want. The government gives us a number of “spots” (called allocations) that determines how many people we can help to sponsor each year. We receive a very large number of requests, and a very small number of allocations or “spots”.
AURA does not have a waiting list, because our ability to support a sponsorship depends on many different factors (location, available sponsor groups etc.). We are in a stronger position to help when a request comes to us directly from an Anglican Parish interested in being involved.
