All resettled refugees are issued a loan by the Government of Canada to cover the cost of their initial transportation to Canada. The cost of travel is usually around $1,000.00 per person.
All AURA sponsor groups are required to repay the loan on behalf of the newcomer(s) before the sponsorship year is over.
*refugees leaving Israel have their travel covered by the Israeli government
*Syrian refugees who arrived in 2015 and 2016 had their travel covered by the Canadian government.
How to repay the loan:
Around month 6 of the sponsorship, a sponsor group member - or the newcomers themselves - should contact Immigration Canada Collections Services to confirm the loan amount and method of repayment.
In order to inquire, a sponsor will need the full name, birthdate, address and UCI (Unique Client ID Number, found on Immigration Documents) for the Principal Applicant of the application.
