I recently became aware of AURA as my refugee sponsorship group from Timothy Eaton Memorial Church sought its assistance to process its application at the end of 2024. AURA was able to get all the paperwork in and accepted within the very tight timeframe much to the sponsors great relief. While I had previously been involved with a couple of refugee sponsorships post arrival, this was the first as part of the actual sponsorship team. I have always been grateful for being able to assist, to host the first meal for a queer Jordanian refugee in Canada, to help move an Iranian Christian family to a new abode and providing much needed permanent housing for a young Ugandan couple. Joining the AURA board is yet another way that I will be able to make a difference in helping refugees successfully be supported and integrated into this grand experiment of a country – Canada.
